Mobile App Development

Shipping an app is the easy part. Keeping it installed is the work — store review, OS upgrades, devices you have never seen, and a release process that has to run every few weeks for years.

Overview

Built for the second release, and the twentieth.

A mobile app is a long-running commitment: two platforms, annual OS releases, and a store that can reject you. We decide native versus cross-platform on the app you are actually building, then set up the release pipeline before the first feature, because that is what determines how painful year two is.

01

Choose the platform

Native or cross-platform decided on the features, the team and the roadmap — not on preference.

02

Design for the device

Touch targets, platform conventions and what the app does with no signal at all.

03

Build the pipeline first

Signing, builds and beta distribution automated before feature work, not after.

04

Build in increments

Shippable builds in testers’ hands throughout, rather than one reveal at the end.

05

Ship through review

Store listings, privacy declarations and review submissions handled as part of delivery.

06

Sustain

Crash reporting, OS-upgrade readiness and a release cadence your team can maintain.

Benefits

What you get.

Right on both platforms

Apps that follow each platform’s conventions instead of looking ported.

Works on real networks

Offline and poor-connection behaviour designed in, not discovered by users.

Releases without drama

Automated signing and distribution, so shipping an update is routine.

FAQ

Common questions.

Cross-platform suits most business apps and saves real money on two codebases. Native earns its cost when you lean hard on device capabilities, need the latest OS features on day one, or are building something performance-critical like heavy graphics. We decide per app rather than by policy.

You do, and that matters more than it sounds. Accounts registered under an agency are a common and painful lock-in. We work inside your developer accounts and set up the access properly.

It happens every year. We keep dependencies current and treat OS releases as planned work rather than emergencies. An app with no maintenance budget will eventually stop being installable, and it is better to plan for that than to discover it.

Usually. We start by getting a build running reproducibly from source and the release pipeline working — that alone surfaces most of what is wrong. Then we agree what is worth fixing versus rebuilding.
