Logistics & Transportation
Logistics runs on other people’s data arriving late. Carriers, warehouses and customers each hold part of the picture, and the cost of a delay is usually paid before anyone knows it happened.
Where visibility actually breaks down.
The failure is rarely one missing system. It is many partial ones that disagree, updated at different times, with exceptions handled by whoever notices first.
Carrier data in every format
EDI, CSV, portals and email, each with its own schedule and its own idea of what a status code means.
Exceptions found too late
A missed collection or failed delivery surfaces when the customer calls, by which point the recovery options have narrowed.
Cost per shipment is a guess
Fuel, surcharges, demurrage and returns land in different systems, so true landed cost is reconstructed after the fact.
Planning against stale data
Routing and capacity decisions made on yesterday’s positions, because that is when the last file arrived.
Normalise the feeds, then act on the exceptions.
Ingest every feed
EDI, API, file drops and portals normalised to one event model, with the messy formats handled once.
Reconcile the record
A single shipment timeline that survives partial and conflicting updates from different sources.
Surface exceptions
Rules that flag the shipment at risk while there is still time to act, rather than reporting it afterwards.
Close the loop
Customer notifications, carrier chasing and cost capture triggered from the same events.
Know sooner, and act while it still matters.
What changes for the people doing the work, not just for the systems behind them.
- One shipment timeline reconciled from every carrier and warehouse feed
- Exceptions flagged while recovery is still possible
- Customer notifications driven by real events rather than schedules
- Landed cost captured per shipment instead of reconstructed monthly
- Carrier performance measured on your data, not on their reporting
- New carriers onboarded against an existing integration pattern
What we usually bring to this sector.
The things this sector asks first.
Usually not. A TMS handles execution well; the gap is normally the visibility and exception layer across carriers and sites that sit outside it. We integrate around your TMS and replace only where it is genuinely the constraint.
Pragmatically. Where there is an API we use it, where there is only EDI or a file drop we handle that, and where there is genuinely nothing we fall back to portal scraping while being clear that it is fragile and needs alerting. Pretending every carrier is modern is how these projects lose credibility.
Sometimes, and only once you have enough of your own history. Rules based on known lead times and missed milestones deliver most of the value quickly; predictive models earn their place after that, measured against whether they actually change a decision.
